Online FM

I like to hear Tamil radio programs. There is no dearth of Tamil radio stations. But in Bangalore, which is where I live, no Tamil radio staions are aired. Of course, there are umpteen number of online music broadcast services (they are not radio stations in the strictest sense :) ). Most of them are just a playlist going on infinite loops. There is no life in them. At the time of writing, the online broadcast service that I will rate the best is that of Srilanka based radio station Shakti FM. I've been an ardent listener of Shakthi FM for long time and quality of programs is really high. Kalasam FM broadcast from Canada is my second best choice. Their programs are extremely entertaining, encompassing a wide variety of programs for a radio service and also they give a lot of interesting trivia. These are the only two stations among countless online stations broadcast from all around the globe, that are worth mentioning.

Having said that, they cant provide the same feeling one has when listening to a station that is broadcast from our very own hometown. Those programs that are exactly catered to meet the interests of the locals. I've been missing online broadcast of Tamilnadu based radio stations for five years now. From the present scenario, it looks like its not going to happen in the near future.

The only online channel from Tamilnadu is Aha FM from Chennai and the quality of their programs are supremely inferior. Suryan FM was available for few months until a few months ago and it was stopped suddenly. Their website says 'Online broadcast section is under construction'. When they aleady have an established system for online braodcasting I cant think of any reason to take the system offline and construct it all over again!

Radio Mirchi is another station which I love to hear online. They have online broadcast for Mumbai and I wonder what prevents them from extendng the service for other cities, especially when there are a huge number of die hard fans dying to listen them. I keep gettin mails from Radio mirchi that so snd so city's radio mirchi station has now got a website on its own. Actually they are nothing but dead pages all having the same content except for the name of the city. Why would a station popularize itslef like this??

In spite of knowing that it will not be useful, I have taken an action instead of just cribbing. Of course the best I can do is to send them a mail in this regard and requested them to provide online feed of their programs.

I'm waiting for a day when i can be transported to my hometown as soon as I close my eyes.
